How Ayurveda Can Amplify Your Kambo Session

Implementing Ayurvedic practices to assist with Kambo integration.

Let’s Get Started!

The actual Kambo ceremony is only the beginning of your healing journey. The real work comes in the aftercare and integration process. I have provided some Ayurvedic tips and tricks to get the most out of your Kambo session! Ayurveda is a medicine that dates back over five thousand years ago and focuses on healing through the five senses. Incorporating Ayurvedic practices into your life following a Kambo session can potentiate Kambo’s healing benefits.

DIET

Since you just cleansed your body so deeply of toxins, you are going to want to have a healthy diet. I am going to include some diet suggestions and proper ways of eating following a session with Kambo.

Try to eat a vegan diet for at least two weeks following your session with kambo. If you can go longer, that would be ideal. Listen to your body and what feels right to you!

Because of all the toxins your body just released you may be craving sugar. Parasites are dying and they want to be fed! Do not give in to them! Let them die! Eat a low sugar diet.

You may take a bunch of amazing supplements. Please refrain from them for at least three days but ideally a week after the ceremony. You remember all that liver bile you purged? Your liver did a lot of work to make that happen. Give it a break on processing those supplements.

Refrain from any drugs or alcohol for one month following Kambo. If this is too long for you then give it at least one week. The longer you go without, the better!

Sweet, bitter and astringent tastes would be best to eat at this time. This will not bring aggravation to the fire element in the body. Kambo can bring up fiery emotions in your body. It can bring up anger that has been held in the body for a long time, sounds fun right!? But it will feel good to release and is necessary for your healing! Try to avoid spicy foods that will aggravate this even more. Also, when i say “sweet” foods that does not mean candy bars. I will provide some examples below.

Please avoid spicing your food a lot. A little spice is ok but dont go overboard. Plain foods are best after Kambo for at least a week after but three days minimum.

Below is examples of foods with sweet, bitter and astringent tastes.

SWEET TASTE:

Fruits: Bananas, cantaloupes, dates, figs, mangos, melons, and prunes.

Veggies: Beets, carrots (cooked), cucumber, olives and sweet potatoes.

Grains: Corn, rice and wheat

Nuts & Seeds: Almonds, cashews, coconut and pumpkin seeds

BITTER TASTE:

Veggies: Bitter melon, burdock root, leafy greens (kale, collards, dandelion greens or yellow dock), eggplant and jerusalem artichokes.

ASTRINGENT TASTE:

Fruits: Apples, bananas, cranberries and pomegranates.

Veggies: Alfalfa sprouts, avocado, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots (cooked),  cauliflower, green beans, lettuce, peas and potatoes.

Grains: Pasta (wheat) and rye.

Legumes: Most beans are astringent.

Have you ever been in such a rush to get to work or an appointment that you bring your food on the road and eat while you are driving? Well, in Ayurveda it states that doing this hurried act is horrible for your digestion. Why? Well, when your body has time to register what it is eating you begin salivating at the thought, this is your body preparing to digest that exact food. But when you eat in a rush, not being present with your food, your body doesn't know what it is digesting and therefore, doesn't do so properly. Below are Ayurveda’s 15 guidelines for healthy eating.

THE FIFTEEN GUIDELINES FOR HEALTHY EATING

FOOD SHOULD BE TAKEN IN A PROPER PLACE

For maximum digestion food should be taken in a peaceful environment. The ideal environment would be calm with the sounds of nature. It is pleasing to the senses, therefore assisting with good digestion.

EAT FOODS PREPARED IN A LOVING WAY AND BY LOVING HANDS

Food prepared by loving hands is always more beneficial to the body than food prepared without awareness. Food prepared with anger or resentment should be avoided as it increases rajas (distraction) of the mind. Food prepared with ignorance of the sacred increases the tamas (ignorance) of the mind. Our food receives the energy of the person cooking it.

SAY GRACE BEFORE MEALS

Grace is an opportunity for meditation, chanting or saying a blessing before taking food. The act of nourishing our bodies with food is a sacred and loving act. By saying grace prior to food consumption it drops us into a place of gratitude. There is no proper way to say grace, simply follow your heart. Or say thank you for the food you are about to receive.

FOOD SHOULD BE TAKEN WITHOUT DISTRACTION

It is important to stay focused while eating. When the mind is distracted, food is not chewed properly and can be consumed without proper intention. You may also eat more than is necessary.

FOOD SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PROPER FRAME OF MIND

When consuming food, the mind should be peaceful. If a person is anxious, angry, disturbed, or impatient, it is best to meditate first.

FOOD SHOULD BE CHEWED UNTIL IT IS AN EVEN CONSISTENCY

It is important to chew food properly. Digestion begins in the mouth. Food which is broken down properly in the mouth is easily digested in the stomach and intestines. When a person is distracted, food is not chewed properly, you don't enjoy the meal and your body isn't able to receive all of its nutrients properly!

FOOD SHOULD BE WARM

-Warm food is more easily digested than cold food.

FOOD SHOULD BE TAKEN THAT ARE OILY OR MOIST

Oily and moist foods are more nourishing than dry foods. Dry foods are difficult to digest and to eliminate. Still, food that is too oily is hard to digest, as it is very heavy. Hence, all foods should be moist or somewhat oily.

FOOD SHOULD NOT HAVE OPPOSITE POTENCIES

This is the essence of food combining. Some specific food combinations will be difficult to digest and will vitiate the doshas. For example, not eating warm and cold foods together. Such as rice and salad.

ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS OF LIQUID SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH MEALS

-When too much liquid is taken with food, the liquid reduces the strength of your digestion.  It is like putting water on fire.

ONE SHOULD AVOID COLD DRINKS

-Cold drinks weaken the digestion. Imagine your digestive system being a fire. In order to keep that fire strong before digestion you should only intake small amounts of liquids while eating and the liquid should be room-temperature.

FOOD SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH SELF-CONFIDENCE

-When eating food, it is important for a person to feel good about what they are consuming. Self- confidence motivates the internal forces of nature to support good digestion.

EAT UNTIL YOU ARE 75% FULL

-Overeating suppresses digestion. When a proper amount of food has been taken a person no longer feels hungry.  A person should feel satisfied, not full. The body and mind should feel light and awake after a meal. A burp will present itself when you are 75% full, try to pay attention to this.

TAKE SOME TIME TO REST AFTER MEALS

-It is common for people to complete a meal and immediately get back up and go back to being productive. Even just sitting for ten minutes will suffice! At the very least take three deep breaths after your meal before getting up and returning to your day!

ALLOW THREE HOURS TO REST AFTER MEALS

-Three hours is the minimum time for your food to digest. Hence, the previous meal can be fully digested before the next meal. The appetite should not become strong until the previous food is digested. If the desire to eat again arises sooner than three hours one must ask themselves if they are actually hungry or if they just have the desire to eat.

LIFESTYLE

What things do you want to change in your life? Now is the time to reflect on how you can live healthier and happier. Following a Kambo ceremony it has been said that implementing positive lifestyle changes into your daily routine is significantly easier.

  • Make healthy changes; start yoga, start meditation, start trying new and healthy activities. The time is now!

  • Please refrain from sexual activities with anyone unless you are in a healthy relationship! If you are single, try to wait one month but at least one week. You can become very attached to someone after doing Kambo. Trust me from experience, you do not want this to be the wrong person!

  • Rest if you need to and don't feel guilty for it! If you are feeling tired after Kambo this is your body telling you, you must rest!

  • Journal what emotions or insights might be coming up for you

  • Be gentle with yourself during this time!

It’s important to keep in mind that as easy as it is to bring in positive lifestyle changes following a Kambo ceremony, the same can be said about negative ones. Be aware of your choices and ways of thinking. Now is the time for change in your life, let it be positive!
